uPrecisionMic

uPrecisionMic is a USB-C connected precision test and measurement microphone that meets ANSI and IEC electrical and acoustic Class 1 standards. It works with USB-equipped iPhone, iPad, Windows PCs, Apple Macs, Android devices, and with the included adapter, all Lightning-connector equipped iPhones and iPads. uPrecisionMic is truly a universal class one measurement device.

New! Now available with an upgraded 1/2″ free-field capsule with even tighter frequency response limits, and lower noise! The uPrecisionMic-Ultimate boasts +/-0.5dB frequency response from 20-20kHz, and below 18dBA noise level. Select the Ultimate option at checkout.

uPrecisionMic is factory calibrated to +/-0.1dB using a NIST traceable pressure-compensated calibrator. The calibration factor for both high and low ranges are recording on the factory calibration card in dBFS, so that application software can be calibrated to provide an absolute SPL level.

The uPrecisionMic body is built of beautifully finished nickel-plated solid bronze tubing that is threaded to accept a standard 1/2” microphone capsule.

All of the active electronics are in the microphone body, including the microphone preamplifier using a 5 gigaOhm input impedance resistor, precision 24-bit A/D converter, and the logic circuitry required to communicate over a USB digital audio link.

uPrecisionMic connects to the USB host device with a USB type C connector using a 1m (39”) cable. If your device does not have a USB  C connection available, you can use any standard passive USB C – USB A or micro adapter.’

uPrecisionMic + iPhone/iPad = Class 1 Instrument

Connect uPrecisionMic to any iOS device with a Lightning connector, download our AudioTools app, and you have a precision sound level meter, ready for certification.

See how to make an affordable and powerful hand-held audio analyzer system based on iPrecisionMic.

Innovative Design

The microphone is built of beautifully finished nickel-plated solid bronze tubing, with no seams or welds. It has very low susceptibility to mechanical resonances.  When equipped with a weatherproof windscreen and a protective boot on the cable end, it is suitable for use outdoors in all weather conditions.

All of the active electronics are in the microphone body, including the regulated power supply, microphone preamplifier, precision 24-bit A/D converter, and the circuitry required to communicate with Apple devices via a digital audio link. This means that we are not reliant on the analog electronics stages in the iPhone or iPad, but rather we completely bypass them with a digital audio link.

Included Software

uPrecisionMic will automatically unlock the SPL Pro and SPL Graph modules (including octave band logging) in AudioTools. Combined with the other free modules in AudioTools, RTA, FFT analyzer, SPL Meter, and Generator, you have a complete test & measurement package. Extend this with any of our optional modules, such as STIPA speech intelligibility, SoundScope, Transfer Function, or LARSA for room correction and sound system setup.

Power

uPrecisionMic is powered directly from the iOS device. It uses less than 90ma while audio is active, and much less when idle.

Note: uPrecisionMic will not charge the host device.

Audio Output

To use the signal generator output from the app, you can  plug in any standard 1/8” (3.5mm) stereo audio plug. Note that the output is line level, and is not designed to power headphones.
