See our Microphone Calibration and Setup page for complete instructions and a demonstration video. Note that phantom power is off by default.
A: Apple seems to have broken this by inserting a sample rate converter or filter into the audio signal path, so our surround data is being corrupted. No known workaround at this time, other than switching to an iOS device with iOS 12 or earlier installed. We have escalated this to Apple but it is unclear when or if they will change this.
A: Yes! New iAudioInterface2 include our USB C Interconnect cable. If you have a unit that came with a USB A cable you can order this cable from us and use it with the new iPads with USB C, and presumably the next generation of USB C iPhones.
Note that the USB A cable with an adapter will allow limited use of the interface, but the USB C cable is the correct solution. Also, the USB C cable will not supply power to the host device.
Sometimes the iPad needs to be restarted when this happens. It seems that the USB audio system can get confused and a reboot will fix it.
A: You can use a USB C hub that supports charging. For example, the Anker Series 3 PowerExpand 7+ works fine, most likely similar devices will also work. There is one trick, you have to use it with USB C charger that supports 15V, rather than the simple 5V chargers. These are typically called “fast chargers” and would be rated at 35 Watts. Another option is the Apple series of iPad Magic Keyboards, these have another USB C port on them that can supply power to iPad through the connector pads on the back, leaving the USB C port on the iPad open.
A: We have had success with this particular Lightning extender on iOS 13.4.1:

A: There are some delays in the firmware, follow these steps and it will work fine. 1) Unplug all cables from the interface. 2) Start the iAudioInterface Control panel, if you are on Mac. 3) Plug the USB cable to the interface only, but do not plug it into the computer yet. 4) Wait a full 20 seconds. 5) Now plug the USB connector into the computer. 6) Select the iAudioInterface2 from the Mac Sound Settings panel, or from the Windows Sound Control Panel.
A: Yes. iAudioInterface2 suppports all Lightning connector iOS devices.
A: Yes! Just connect it using the included USB cable and select the iAudioInterface2 from the computer’s control panel.
A: Always unplug the interconnect cable, to prevent it from causing the battery to slowly discharge.
A: It seems that Apple has changed the requirements for charging newer iPad models, like iPad Air. This has affected a lot of people, using lots of different chargers. I don’t have any official word on this, but it appears as if the new iPads are less tolerant for charging unless they have the full current available. Although our charging passed Apple testing at the time, and still works with older iPads, it seems like now they are being more strict. This only affects the first gen of iAudioInterface2, which has a fixed cable and 12V PSU. The current model, with the removable cable, does not have a problem charging any iPad model.
A: No. The original iAudioInterface mic will not work with iAudioInterface2, since the new interface requires a balanced XLR phantom power mic, and the older mic is 1/4″ single-ended not phantom-powered.
A: No. Since so many of our customers have their own microphones, we decided not to include one. AudioControl, our distributor, is making several microphones available with the unit in case you do not have one.
A: No, that is not possible. Power is sent to the iPad (or other iOS device) only when the external power supply is attached.
A: Since the iOS device is always the clock master, we would have to include a sample rate converter to match the iOS device clock, which kind of defeats the purpose of a digital input. Also, we are short on panel real estate.
