NEW – uPrecisionMic: USB-C Class 1 Measurement Microphone

uPrecisionMic is a complete redesign of our precision Lightning-connector microphone, rebuilt around USB-C. It is a factory-calibrated test and measurement microphone that meets ANSI and IEC Class 1 electrical and acoustic standards, with the entire signal chain — capsule, preamp, and 24-bit A/D converter — inside the microphone body. Plug it in and you have a calibrated measurement system with no external interface required.

Works with virtually everything

uPrecisionMic connects directly to any USB-C device: iPhone 15 and later, all USB-C iPads, Mac, Windows PCs, and Android phones and tablets. A USB-C to USB-A adapter is included for computers without a USB-C port, and an iOS Lightning adapter is included so it also works with legacy Lightning iPhones and iPads. No drivers are required — it appears as a standard USB audio device.

Two versions available

uPrecisionMic is offered in Standard and Enhanced versions. Both use a titanium-diaphragm, Class 1-compatible 1/2″ omni capsule and share the same body, electronics, factory calibration, and included accessories. Line Level Output

uPrecisionMic has an 1/8″ (3.5mm) balanced/stereo output jack on the bottom of the microphone, which provides support for playing synchronous test signals for calibration and setup. Use it with our 1/8″ – XLR adapter cable in balanced mode for long cable runs. uPrecisionMic is the only USB microphone with an audio output jack.

Factory calibrated, NIST traceable

Every uPrecisionMic is calibrated at the factory to ±0.1 dB using a NIST-traceable, pressure-compensated calibrator. The calibration factors for both the high and low gain ranges are recorded in dBFS on the included calibration card, so any measurement application can be calibrated to read absolute SPL. When used with AudioTools on iOS or iPadOS — over USB-C or the included Lightning adapter — the calibration data is read automatically the moment the mic is plugged in. An individual calibration curve chart is also included.

Built like a laboratory instrument

The body is machined from solid bronze tubing, nickel-plated and beautifully finished, and threaded to accept a standard 1/2″ measurement capsule. All active electronics live inside the body: a low-noise microphone preamplifier with a 5 GΩ input impedance for accurate low-frequency response, a precision 24-bit A/D converter, and the USB audio interface logic. The result is a compact, rugged microphone with no external electronics to add noise or drift.

The included 1 m (39″) USB-C cable connects uPrecisionMic to the host device.
