iPhone 3G on iOS 4 Warning

Note: This does not apply to iPhone 3GS.

Although we have updated our app to work on iOS 4, there are several issues with iOS 4 running on iPhone 3G. Many users are reporting problems with speed and graphics with our app and other apps.

We DO NOT recommend upgrading an iPhone 3G to iOS 4. AudioTools 2.2 corrects many issues, but it seems that the problem is really due to running iOS on that device, which has less memory than later models.

Update: We have tested iOS 4.1 and we do see some improvements, but not enough to let us recommend updating to iOS 4 unless you have another reason for doing so.

Here's how the memory breaks down:

128MB RAM:

  • iPhone (1st generation)
  • iPod touch (1st generation)
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPod touch (2nd generation)

256MB RAM:

  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod Touch (3rd generation)
  • iPad

512MB RAM:

  • iPhone 4 -- 512mb RAM
